This spalted maple headboard is made of 2 pieces of 7’ long x 26-40” wide crotch maple slabs that are hung on the wall. Lights are surface mounted for additional visibility for reading at night. This natural maple headboard was the idea of a talented interior designer in Manhattan. She and I have collaborated on many projects together with fantastic results. Spalted Maple Headboard
The material for this 14’ maple headboard came from a small tree service in Maryland. They take down urban trees and salvage the trunks by sawing them up with a bandsaw that is on-site. I travel to Maryland to hand select the trees that I would like to ship back to my solar powered wood shop in Corvallis, Montana. I unload all the slabs by hand and proceed to measure, photograph and catalog each one for my inventory. I put the slabs on stickers and stack them safely away under the cover of my shed for 2-3 years so they can air dry. Then I plane, sand and photograph them again as finished table tops and put them on the my website. Call me with ideas for your own work of art at 406-777-3772.
